Re-imagining a Legend: The Porsche 908/04 Hybrid Concept Model

We’ve all had that feeling. When you see something the literally takes your breath away. Like you have just been lifted ten feet off the floor and are levitating. This project by a aspiring car designer’s in China evokes such an emotion.

The inspiration for the model is the Porsche 908/02 which competed across all the important endurance races in 1969. A car that claimed wins at Brands Hatch, Monza, the Targa Florio, Spa, and at the Nürburgring. Within those wins, highlights included a 1-2-3 at Brands Hatch, and an unbelievable 1-2-3-4-5 at the Nürburgring.

Having won the 1969 International Championship for Makes, the only notch missing on the Porsche’s 908/02 belt was a win at Le Mans where their car finished a close second behind the legendary combination of Jacky Ickx and Ford’s GT 40’s.

Essentially the model is taking modern styling and design queues from Porsche’s production vehicles, and using the shape of the 908/02, to create a much more visceral modern LMP1 car.

The result is nothing short of stunning.

Modern P1 cars, although remarkable works of engineering, too often lack the personality and uniqueness of cars from past generations. This blend really is something to behold, and worthy of praise in a world where generic knockoffs are far too common.

Well done lads, the 5000+ hours you’ve spent on this hobby project have resulted in a true work of art.
